So much to catch up on and so many topics I want to touch on!
Well, let's start with softball. We went 1-2 on Saturday and that was it. How horrible. As it turns out, we tied for 9th again, but out of only 28 teams. We won our first game and then got pounded by the team that ended up finishing in second. Then we played the team that ended up finishing third and lost 11-10 and we had the tying run on third and the winning run on second with one out. Ugh.
Personally I hit like crap. In the first game, which we won, I went 0-3 and didn't even have a good at bat. The strike zone the umpires were calling was much higher than we play here in Illinois and I didn't adjust well. In my next four at bats I got one hit, one sacrifice fly to tie the game (an important run at the time) and was robbed by a diving play by the center fielder. So though I was only 1-4, it felt more like 3-4. Still, not a good day for Joe or the team.
Let's stay on the sports theme for this entry. In the next few days I'll cove my trip to the Detroit Zoo!!
The Cubs only have 8 home games left before the post season.....8!!! Damn.
Alphonso Soriano hit .194 for the Cubs in August. The Cubs went 20-8 in August. The Brewers went 20-7 and are 4 1/2 game behind the Cubs. The Astros, way back in the standings, went 21-9 in August. The division might be weak, but those are great Augusts!!
Five years ago this month Ron Santo had his number retired at Wrigley Field. I believe I was at that game with DogBrian sitting in the first row behind home plate. Five years ago.....wow.

detroit zoo, I wonder what kind of animals they have there... jazz legends?
Maybe Iron Butterflies?
Joe - Sounds like your team needs to do some recruiting if it is going to compete in this higher league.
It seems like all your softball posts lately mention disappointment. What happened?
I'm thinking it's a combination of things Stef. One, we were forced to step up to the next highest level of competition after doing well at the lower level last year. Two, the last two tournaments we were eliminated by the team that won it all in one and the teams that finished 2nd and 3rd in the other. So that's just bad luck that we drew them in the brackets when we did. Third, we have some guys who just struggling a bit and we're trying to work through that. New players added mid-season means you have to get used to the new personalities and such. We have to straighten it out this month though!!
You are correct. It was me in attendance with you in the front row behind home plate. Wow, that was 5 years ago!
Sorry to hear about the bad tournament play. Hopefully, you guys can get it together for the next one.
