Late Father's Day

Father’s Day just passed and it was the first one since pops passed away. LL and the kids showered me with gifts and affection all weekend and that really took some of the sting out of him not being here. He was never big on celebrating Father’s Day, or his birthday or whatever, anyway. He just liked to get everyone together. Every Father’s Day, on Facebook, I like to post these pictures in a montage.

I need to find out my great grandfather’s name. For some reason, probably because I never met him, it’s escaping me. The oldest picture there is from 1936 and if there were a picture of my grandfather as a baby, it would have been from 1900!

On a hot day like today, 90+ in the burbs, pops would be definitely not be going outside, so I'm sure we would have chatted on the phone about who knows what, but most likely what time the Cubs played (since it wasn't 1:20), the weather and if his joints hurt because of the weather, but we'd talk about the sports events of the day and what we were or were not watching. I'm sure he would have asked if LL and the kids got home from Michigan safely or not and to let him know when they did. It would have been a not overly complex or lengthy conversation, but boy do I wish I could have another one with him.

*****Edit: More information from my mom through some old correspondence. My great grandfather's name was Harry T. Sutton, born in Cambria County, PA 10/26/1873. Son of David and Mary (Boland) Sutton. How about that?? Joseph Earl was my grandpap (that's what they call them in PA). The Sutton's "up the mountain" in Cambria County

Harry was a carpenter by trade and a member of the union. He passed around 8/1948 and was survived by his wife Marie (Gutierrez), son M. Lee Sutton, Joseph Earl, Mary Schmidt, and Beatrice Eisenberg. Harry had 6 grand children at the time he passed and 7 great grandchildren. Harry had one sister, Molly Weakland.

Harry was a member of Mount Carmel Church in Altoona and Knights of St. George. He's buried in St. John's Cemetery in Altoona, PA. My mom thinks Harry's parents were married by Prince Gallitzin (a Polish royalty member who gave it up to be a priest in PA). Cool stuff!
