A little work talk

Oddly, I don't talk much about my job (or jobs) other than when ESDNM comes to visit monthly and he forces me to eat and drink way too much in addition to getting up at ridiculous hours of the morning. Tonight though, I'll take a slight departure and actually talk about one client.

This client is a manufacturer related to commercial construction. For the last year or so, their sales have been drying up and competition has increased. The patriarch also started suffering dementia and now has Alzheimer's. The matriarch now not only has to deal with a flailing company, but a faltering husband. Ugh. Their eldest son is in his 30's and completely dependent on his parents due to poor health and drugs. Personally their financial situation has deteriorated as well.

We became involved while the patriarch was developing dementia and we were able to provide support for the matriarch as well as re-organizing some of the corporate documents to allow the company to run more smoothly.

Now they have a plan in place for making dramatic cuts in the company to survive on sales volumes that are 20% of what they were only last year. Personally the matriarch has a plan for creating liquidity and avoiding bankruptcy.

So today ESDNM and I met with this client and basically fired ourselves. We said, you have a plan in place for the business and a personal plan as well. Now you just need to execute and you shouldn't be paying consultants to do that for you.

That's what happens with my clients though. Interestingly, I received a message from a woman whose husband just recently passed away and left her with a 100 year old business to run. Now she wants to sell and get out. Hopefully we can help her out. Funny how one door closes and another opens though.
